A trip to Wellington

Michael suggested that Bevan and I come in and see him for lunch in Wellington. I know it was a big undertaking, but I wanted to take Michael up on his challenge. I've decided that the best way to get more confident about being a mummy is to try to do things which I would normally have done but which are a bit more challenging and scary to contemplate doing with a baby along.

We planned this trip to co-incide with Michael going in to work later with the car and we caught a ride. Michael dropped us off with the pram just outside my old work place on Featherston Street.

Straight away I bumped into 2 people I knew outside and I had a quick chat. Then we went in (via the branch doors - they have a ramp rather than stairs) and took the lift up. I showed Bevan off around the team. Bevan started grumbling so I took him into the break room to feed. It is a good spot as it has blinds and a lock and comfy chairs.

After his "snack" I went out for a coffee with my friends Sandra and Madhu. We went to the Hotel Intercontinental and Bevan was mostly quiet, but very awake. When he grumbled I got out his bottle of expressed milk and gave him a feed. After our coffees I took Bevan to the bathroom to change his nappy, luckily the lobby toilets there have a change table.

We headed off in the pram to drop off his photo frame to be engraved, then up to Michaels office to show Bevan off there. I bumped into my friend Rachel on the way and was able to introduce her to Bevan. In the pram Bevan went to sleep and was well behaved. At Michaels office Bevan was a bit whiney as it was hot and he hadn't had as much feeding as normally. Everyone there admired Bevan and it was so nice to see Michael being the proud father.

Michael, Bevan and I headed to the waterfront for lunch and then I headed off to the train station. I managed to catch a train leaving within a couple of minutes, the only problem was it was quite crowded in the area of seating best suited to prams. The train guard helped me get the pram in and I put Bevan on my lap to soothe him. It was very hot and so Bevan soon fell asleep.

Finally we reached our station and walked home.

What an adventure!
